My family and some friends have encouraged me to create this blog because, they kindly think, I am a good writer. However, I once read that anyone can be taught to write a decent sentence. A good writer has a third ear not for words but for human nature. In many ways it is the same as someone who, without any lessons and without sheet music, can sit down and play the piano with ease and often with some brilliance. We can not explain what we know. We just know it.
During a life that is already long, and not entirely uneventful, I have had time to ponder its vicissitudes and have reached two inescapable conclusions: 1) there is absolutely no substitute for cash and 2) there is clearly no accounting for taste.
This makes life interesting and often amusing. I trust you will find my blog to be likewise while remembering that a sceptical frame of mind, like Dr. Johnson's, is best induced by holding firmly to the truth.
