MARIANNE WILLIAMSON

Yesterday Karen Siegemund, president of the American Freedom Alliance, was justifiably outraged at this Facebook post from Marianne Williamson and asked for some responses.

Below is Williams’ post followed by my response. Since she attempted to get the Democratic Party’s nomination for president, I thought you might be interested to read more of her disingenuous virtue signaling which was so obvious during her nomination campaign.

Marianne Williamson:

Today is Holocaust Remembrance day, 76 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. This is one of the most famous photographs from the Holocaust, mainly because the famed Eli Weisel is one of the men in the picture. Before anyone criticizes the posting of the picture, let me be clear that there is no remembrance without remembering; posting the picture, bearing witness to the agony, reflecting on the reality of unspeakable evil, is exactly what we should be doing on a day such as this.

As we reflect on it, let’s not forget that this unspeakable genocide occurred less than 100 years ago. Often, when we think of such things as slavery in the United States or the genocide of Native Americans, the mind is tempted to deflect the horror by reminding ourselves that it happened a long time ago - as though humanity has outgrown such a thing. But the Holocaust happened less than 100 years ago and as Arnold Schwarzenegger reminded us in his remarkable video a couple of weeks ago, the shattered glass of Krystalnacht was not unlike the shattered glass at the Capitol on January 6. One of the famous pictures from January 6 is that of a man wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” sweatshirt; others wore T-shirts bearing 6MWNE (6 million were not enough).

So days like this are very important. Hate is not about who you hate. Whether the scapegoat is Jews or Blacks or Mexicans or immigrants - dictators and wanna-be dictators commonly use the scapegoating technique to gain and maintain power. Clearly and tragically, twas always thus. By bearing witness to the tragedy of any people, we deepen our commitment to love for all people.

Four years ago today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day President Trump refused to reference Jews in his statement. That day I knew we were in bigger trouble than we might realize. Who was he seeking to please with his refusal to acknowledge the dangers of anti-Semitism?

On this day, remembering the Holocaust, let’s none of us avoid the tears, the memories, or the responsibilities this photograph confronts us with. Such atrocities are not a thing of the past. Let us never forget, and never stop working to create a world in which such things do not and cannot exist.

Paul Schnee:

It usually takes a lifetime to reach the level of stupidity demonstrated by the remarks of Ms. Williamson but unfortunately for us and embarrassingly for herself she has managed to short-circuit the process.

The disgraceful riot by a few hundred bizarre conspiracy theorists and vile misguided nationalists on Capitol Hill, strongly repudiated by genuine Trump supporters, bears no historical comparison to Kristallnacht in November 1938 which resulted in the burning of almost 300 synagogues, the destruction of 7,000 Jewish businesses, the deportation of 30,000 Jews to concentration camps, and hundreds of grisly murders, all committed by Hitler's Nazis. Arnold Schwarzenegger has already apologized for his stupidity; Marianne Williamson should do the same for hers.

Beaming her wisdom towards us with such yawn inducing banalities as, "there is no remembrance without remembering" Ms. Williamson also pronounced that hate-filled atrocities are not a thing of the past so she should consider this: during the Pico Boulevard and Fairfax pogrom in June of 2020 Jewish business were violently looted, destroyed and burned by a crowd of over 1,000 rioters. Synagogues were defaced with graffiti. Police cars were set ablaze. Police officers were attacked. BLM and Antifa, the shock troops of the Democrats currently being held in abeyance, rampaged screaming, "Fuck the police; kill the Jews!" Yet, not one word of condemnation was heard from the Democratic candidates during their primary process in which Ms. Williamson participated nor was any condemnation heard during her party's convention last August. They watched approvingly with folded arms as the murderous riots continued across America all during last summer.

Now, Ms. Williamson could not possibly have read President Trump's remarks at the Holocaust Remembrance ceremony four years ago otherwise she would be aware that her charge against him about refusing to make any reference to Jews is false. She needs to read the transcript of that speech and while she's about it she should learn the correct spelling of 'Kristallnacht'!

Using the Holocaust to advance the narrative of the Left against President Trump is obscene particularly when she accuses him of being indifferent to Jews and anti-Semitism. As proof that Ms. Williamson has used the last four years as an opportunity to catch up on some sleep here is a list of President Trump's pro-Israel policies and actions: https://spectator.clingendael.org/en/publication/trump-most-pro-israel-president-american-historand to disabuse herself of any notion she might harbor of how helpful Obama was to Israel she ought to read these two articles describing his disgusting hostility towards America's most faithful and intrepid ally: https://www.nationalreview.com/2016/12/obama-anti-israel-jewish-jerusalem-judeo-christian-western-civilization/
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2016/01/20/why-its-correct-to-label-the-obama-administration-anti-israel/

Doubtless Ms. Williamson has a few more books inside of her but judging by her recent remarks that is exactly where they should stay.
